Martha Guy Summer Institute  Appalachian's Walker College of Business is accepting applications for the Martha Guy Summer Institute. The Martha Guy Summer Institute (MGSI) is a unique three-week summer program for high-achieving high school juniors interested in pursuing a degree in some area of business.

The three-week institute provides on-campus instruction and fun activities, as well as local and/or regional travel. Some travel destinations vary by year, but time in New York City has been a staple of this program. Participants will develop their leadership skills, explore careers in business, meet business leaders and develop new business ideas to present to industry leaders. 

  • Program dates – July 9–29, 2017
  • Application deadline – February 24, 2017
  • Tuition – $1,800 + $350 meal plan (tuition scholarships are available)

Summer of 2017 NC State University - The Shelton Challenge - The Shelton Challenges are programs offered to rising freshmen thru rising seniors in high school consisting of two distinct programs. The First-Year Shelton Challenge programs and also The Take II Shelton Challenge, which is for past Challenge graduates.  These programs are values-based, leadership programs. Summer Volunteer Program -  Lexington Medical Cneter is announcing their summer voluteer program for students ages 14-18.  This opportunity is for students who are interested in a competitive commuity service opportunity in the medical setting. Wake Forest University 2017 Summer Immersion Program -
Interested students and parents are invited to attend an Open House to learn more about the 2017 Wake Forest University Summer Immersion Program.  The event is on Sunday, February 19, 2017 from 1:00-4:00. Attendees will have a chance to win a scholarship to this program.  The program does require a tuition.

Meredith College Women's Leadership Conference for High School Juniors Saturday, February 4, 2017, Meredith College will hold its annual women's leadership development conference. This is free except for your transportation to and from Raleigh and is limited to 250 female juniors who are aspire to leadership positions in their senior year or are in leadership positions now. Summer Ventures is a rigorous four week program for rising juniors and seniors with a strong interest in Science and Mathematics.  Students conduct research on STEM topics.  Applications can be found at summerventures.org.  January 15, 2017 is the deadline to apply and applicants will be notified if they are accepted April 4, 2017.

Miss Thomasville Scholarship Pageant - Celebrating 81 Years! -  The Miss Thomasville / Central Carolina Pageant is pleased to announce the partnership with High Point University and Wingate University  -
These colleges will be offering in-kind scholorships to the the winners of the Miss Thomasville and the Miss Central Carolina titles as well as the winners of the Miss Thomasville's Outstanding Teen and the Miss Central Carolina's Outstanding Teen.

UNC-Chapel Hill Catalyst Conference -
 Every year, the Catalyst Conference brings a select group of 100 high school students from across North Carolina to UNC-CH for a weekend-long exploration of social justice issues affecting both America and the larger world. Make-A-Wish Central and Western NC offers an exciting service oriented opportunity for students!
Each year, Make-A-Wish partners with Macy's and runs a "letters to Santa" campaign.  This is a great opportunity for an individual student to volunteer, or better yet, for a student to organize and facilitate and even larger letter collection drive!  During the campaign, for each letter received at Macy's for the campaign, Macy's will donate $1 to Make-A-Wish, up to $1 million.  AND on the actual Believe Day, December 9, for each letter, Make-A Wish will receive. $2.00.  Click here for a brochure!

Hospice of Davidson County presents a free community lecture:  After Death Communication on Thursday, October 6 from 6:30-8:30 at Davidson County Community College.  Please call (336) 475-5444 by September 30 to register.  Guest speaker is Douglas Smith, a professional speaker, trainer, consultant, and counselor.  Participants will examine the ways people may continue to experience loved ones after they have died.  
National Youth Leadership Forum:  Medicine

The NYLF: Medicine is dedicated to early recognition and preparation of the world's most promising future physicians.  This summer program is geared towards educating, inspiring, and motivating students.  During the 2016-17 academic year students must be in 9-12 grade to apply.  Summer 2017 sessions will be held in Atlanta, Boston, Houston, Los Angeles, New York City, Raleigh-Durham, San Francisco, and Washington DC.  Tuition is charged for this enrichment activity.  Please see Mrs. Hiller if you are interested in being nominated.

Bridges of Hope Bereavement Camp 
Hospice of Davidson County is hosting a one-day bereavement camp for children in first through twelfth in their lives to remember and honor loved ones. Volunteer Opportunity
Volunteer opportunity is available at Spring Arbor of Thomasville, Residential Assisted Living and Alzheimer's Care Facility.  The facility is looking for groups to sing, visit, perform… the opportunities are endless but the rewards are priceless.  Contact Danielle Southard 336-472-7171, FAX 336-472-8270.


Volunteer Opportunity with Cooperative Community Ministry
Cooperative Community Ministry (CCM) has been serving the Thomasville area since 1992. Volunteer opportunities are available at CCM for students.  CCM offers a food pantry, school supplies and two meals a week for members of our community who are struggling financially.  If you are interested in volunteering, contact Beth Hibbitts at 336-476-1842 or at ccmtville@northstate.net.
Davidson County Students in the Thomasville area, in grades 8-12: Attention - if you are interested in joining Thomasville Area Teen Council (T.A.T. Council), pick up a form from the East Davidson Guidance Office.  The Teen Council offers leadership development, volunteer opportunities, networking opportunities with students from schools in the Thomasville area, as well as social events.
