Week 3

I hope everyone had a fun and restful three day weekend. Let's keep this week going by participating in your class discussion boards, joining zoom when we've scheduled one (you'll be getting the invite by email), doing our assignments, completing our bell ringers (attendance) and communicating with our teachers when we are struggling (we are here to help!!)
As this week progresses, think about returning to A/B day instruction next week. If you've opted for 100% remote - keep on working as hard as you have these first couple weeks. If you've been slacking, it's not too late to pick up the pieces and start working hard to catch up! You can do this.
For those returning, it will be exciting to see you in class and be able to have some normalcy. Keep in mind that you will still be required to participate in the online course during the days you are learning remotely (from home).
I hope everyone has an excellent and successful week!

Week 2

I hope everyone has gotten comfortable using Canvas and is staying on task with all your classes. Here are a couple announcements for my classes.
I have started putting grades in PowerSchool. Please check that your grades are accurate. If you see a zero it is because I have not received that assignment from you. Don't worry, it is not permanent (during our remote learning phase), it is there so you can have an accurate representation of what your grade will be if you choose to never submit that assignment.
Make sure you are completing the bell ringers, assignments, and/or are contacting me in some way (email, Canvas chat, phone...) to count you present for attendance. Some of you aren't submitting work nor contacting me so I have no way to mark you as present. Please understand that failure to complete assignments within 5 days will result in a permanent "absent" mark.
I will be unavailable on Tuesday September 1st from 9:30 a.m. - around 11:30 a.m. If you have any questions, please email me and I will get back to you ASAP. Thank you!
1st Period
We had our first zoom meeting this morning! It was fun to interact with those of you who were able to make it. We went over the answers for chapters 1 and 2 of the book we are reading in class. Like this meeting, any future meeting will be shared via email at least one day prior to the scheduled meeting. So please make sure you are checking your student email!
2nd/4th Period
We are starting vocab study this week. I have posted a few resources for you to use to learn these terms. We will not have any official quizzes or tests on vocabulary terms until we come back to in person instruction. You will have an assignment with the weekly vocabulary terms on Friday so make sure that you are studying and using the resources provided.
Coming Up
Next week we are out of [online] school in observance of Labor Day (September 7th).Take this time to relax and enjoy time away from your devices. Be ready to come back full force to remote learning on September 8th.

Week 1

I am glad to see so many of you working on your assignments. I know these first couple of days will be learning days for many so I ask we all be patient with one another and ask questions!!! I do want to take some time and answer questions I have received this morning from various students.

No Place To Type?

Many students have emailed asking how to type in an assignment or saying that there isn't a way for them to type. This is something really easy to fix. When you are on the assignment page, click "submit assignment" on the upper right hand corner. This should open the various options for you to submit assignments (text box entry, file upload, etc...)

Get to know me assignment (discussion)

You can talk about anything in the "Get to know me" community circle. This includes pets, jobs, favorites, and even what you did over the summer or something you're looking forward to.

Canvas Chat, email, and Zoom

Just as a reminder, I am available for you during my office hours. For right now, the best way to communicate with me is through email or on the chat provided by canvas. You can also call the school and ask to speak to me. We will not be using zoom these first couple of days. This is so you have time to work on assignments at your own pace and navigate through Canvas. Once we are more comfortable doing that, we will add Zoom meeting. I will send an announcement (email) and link letting you know when we will start zooming.

I take attendance daily. In order to be counted present, you need to submit the assignments that are due on that particular day. Other ways you can be counted present are by calling the school and speaking to me (only do this if you have an important question that will be easier to solve over the phone), sending an email, joining canvas chat or zoom. Just make some sort of contact with me.

I encourage you to work on assignments daily and to follow the remote learning schedule that is posted on the homepage of the school website. This will help you remain on task, give you a pace to follow, set a routine, and allow you to effectively communicate with your teachers at the appropriate times.

Remember to ask your teachers for their office hours! Mine are located at the bottom of the previous post. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to me and I will be happy to help any way I can.

Welcome Back!

I want to welcome you back to this new and exciting school year.
During the week of August 17 - 21, we will be having orientation at East. This is a time to turn in any paperwork you received in the mail as well as an opportunity to pick up technology devices, meet your teachers, and learn the rules and expectations for this semester.
I would like you to keep in mind that nothing is set in stone so we need to be flexible. I will work with you to ensure your well-being and education are taken care of to the best of my ability. I will be posting on my web page (here) weekly and we will be working primarily off of Canvas. You can access Canvas through ncedcloud.
During remote instruction (August 24 - September 11), we will follow the daily schedule allowing the first hour of each period for instruction and the final 30 minutes (or so) for Zoom meetings (I will send out links at a later time) or Canvas chat/email. In other words, you will work on assignments the first hour and we can meet the final 30 minutes to recap, go over, ask questions, etc...
I am looking forward to seeing you all and starting this unique school year.
