TRIO Upward Bound

The purpose of TRIO Upward Bound is to provide participants with skills and motivation necessary to succeed in high school as well as enroll and complete a post secondary education.

This can be a two or four year degree program.

 

Upward Bound Eligibility:

  1. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  2. Must be a 9th - 12th grader at West Davidson, East Davidson, or Central Davidson High School.
  3. Must be a potential first-generation college student and/or demonstrate a financial need
  4. Must maintain a 2.5 GPA or higher

 

TRIO Upward Bound provides services at ZERO cost to students. Services provided includes:

  1. College Admissions Assistance- Applying to College can be overwhelming. TRIO Upward Bound can help you with your admissions essay, college applications, completing the FAFSA or your residency determination, and provides ACT/SAT prep.
  2. Provide Workshops- Workshop topics can include Career Exploration, How to Select a College Major, Effective Study Habits, and MUCH more! Workshops are provided at the high schools during advisory periods or through Saturday Academies.
  3. Cultural Enrichment Opportunities- TRIO Upward Bound provides cultural enrichment opportunities to participants. This includes going on College Tours, overnight educational trips, & fun outings like Top Golf or going to see a musical.
  4. Tutoring/Six Week Summer Academy- TRIO Upward Bound provides tutoring year round in all subjects through Tutor.com. Students are able to receive help virtually 24/7.

 

In addition, students are encouraged to participate in our six week summer academy that covers instruction in math, English, foreign language, and science!

 

How to Apply:

Students interested in Upward Bound can submit an online application. Once an application is received, TRIO Upward Bound staff will review the application. If the student meets the eligibility requirements, they will be invited to an interview to discuss their long-term goals and their interest in the program. Following the interview, a student will be notified if they have been accepted into the program.
